Established in 1957 this is one of the youngest gardens in the group but this garden which, is famous for its collection of hybrid rhododendrons and azaleas, more than makes up for it with a variety of features including its lochland setting surrounded by magnificent views of Ben Cruachan and Glen Etive.

Discover the heart of the hollow mountain. Hidden deep within the mountain of Ben Cruachan on the shores of Loch Etive is the Cruachan Power Station. Here, a short distance from Taynuilt, you can discover one of the hidden wonders of the Highlands. A power generating station buried one kilometre below ground. At its centre lies a massive cavern, high enough to house the Tower of London! Here enormous turbines convert the power of water into electricity, available to you in your home at the flick of a switch. For young and old a fantastic day out. Open 7 Days.

Hillwalking

There are many hills and mountains in the local area, including some munros (mountain over 3000 feet). Ben Cruachan near Taynuilt is a wonderful mountain to climb, as it is mostly a long uphill walk with only a small amount of scrambling at the summit. The views from the top are (in fine weather) spectacular. Other munros in the area include Ben Starav, Glas Bheinn Mhor, Stob na Broige, (Buachaille Etive Mor) and Ben Lui. Further information »
